Week 9, January 10-16

Updated Saturday, January 16, 2009

I met with Denise Mann, the RN and owner of Embodyment. I lost about 5 lbs this week, but overall I have not had any significant weight loss.  Denise called me onto the floor and had a "truth be told" meeting.  Denise got right to it, letting me know that I am the only one that can truly change my life by changing what I eat.  But, she someone managed to do it wtih heart.  We talked about the real reasons for my eating--we knwo its not just hunger, I eat past hunger.

She identified one road block:  I have a fear of withdrawls from the fast food and sodas.  We also talked about overcoming the fear and doing what it takes to succeed.  We sat down together for an hour, and during the course of the hour, identified what food I like that are healhty, and that I can enjoy.

Denise put it back on me, because ultimately, I have to be ready to make the change.

I decided that I wantd to do better.  We made a grocerly list together.

Breakfast foods:  cereal, oatmeal, milk, fruit, yogurt, eggs, protein shakes
Snacks:  fruits, veggies, peanut butter, nuts
Lunches  Sweet Tomatoes, Wendy's chili, turkey, roast beef, salads, veggies
Dinners:  Healthy prepared meals from Trader Joe's and Fresh and Easy.

Well, almost the minute I got home from my appointment with Denise, an old rugby injury flared up--I tore a tendon in my back. Ouch! It put me on the floor. But even as I sat there, I wanted to keep my commitment to myself.  I called a friend, dictated my new grocery list, and waited for him to arrive with two sacks from Trader Joe's.

Now, I know I am dedicated.

I got called into the principal's office today--well not really but kind of!  Denise Mann, Embodyment's president and RN, wanted to go over this very blog with me.  She also included Alex, Embodyment trainer and nutrition expert, in the meeting.  We broke down my diet and I agreed to eat more often, but to eat better.  More vegetables, less processed food, etc.  Denise/Alex/Auggie will begin making notes to this blog in red, so check out their advice to me.

They have also asked me to include water intake and meal and snack times. You will find those starting tomorrow.

It is amazing how many people are following me on my blog. Feel free to comment here.  One of my friends, and a past employee of COMPETE offered this advice:

Ugh! Moving starts today and I am not prepared. I decided to take the day off to get ready and to pack and I still ended up on the phone for  a couple of hours.  This packing and moving really has me working hard though.  My thighs are killing me from Jesse's workout yesterday paired with today's move and ouch! I had to skipped the gym because of the move, but I think my moving workout is almost as painful as Auggie's strenght training!

Morning walk:  15 minutes, up stairs!

Breakfast:  McSkillet Burrito and large Coke.  My last one. I am off McDonald's!

Snack:  Veggie bag

Lunch:  Sweet Tomoatoes.  Salad and cornbread.  French dressing. I switched to ice tea today!

Dinner:  Chinese fried rice bowl from Pei Wei. Large Coke.

Snack:  Chocoalte pudding.
Water:  Not enough (less than 32 ounces)
Coke:  Too much, 5 12 oz servings.

What I would change:  Not stressing on move week and planning better.

Updated Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Life is good! My day started off with a stressful day in the office so I left work early to take some time for myself.  I was excited to be seeing Jesse today.  After two weeks away from my Wednesay workout due to the holidays I am back in full force! Jesse really had me working hard today doing some kickboxing cardio moves.  I enjoyed getting back into it.

Morning Walk:  Buzz! Missed it.
Breakfast:  McSkillet burrito and a large Coke.  I am so grateful I am moving this week and there is no McDonald's in my neighborhood. I am going to stock up on healthy breakfasts in my house.
Lunch:  Uh, oh, i am in trouble again.  All the stress at work caused me to skip lunch.
Dinner:  6 oz meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn, two rolls and a large Coke.
Snack:  Blueberry pie a la mode.
Water:  64 ounces
Coke:  4 total

What I could have done differently:  Taking my lunch to work. i plan on doing that much more next week.  I also need to get that walk in, no matter what.

Updated January 5, 2010

I didn't pre-plan my meals for today as I am moving and won't have the means to store or prepare food at home for about a week. It is amazing how there is always something going on in life that I could let derail my eating goals.  Busy day at work, social gathering, moving, etc.  The best way for me to handle it is accept that there is no "normal" and be flexible.

Morning Walk:  Score! 15 minutes around my neighborhood.
Breakfast:  McDonald's McSkillet burrito with large Coke.  Multi-Vitamin.  Still out of fish oil.
Snack:  Veggie bag with celery, carrots, radishes.
Lunch:  Baked chicken (from Monday) with rice and broccoli.
Snack:  Apple and leftoover veggies.
Dinner:  8 oz Sirloin, baked potato with butter, salad with French Dressing and large Coke.
Water:   100 ounces.

Workout:  30 minutes with Auggie from Embodyment.  My back was hurting from the weekend so Auggie focused mainly on legs/arms.  I was feeling pretty good after and worked up a nice sweat.  I pushed myself a little more than normal.  I am ready for the new me!
